I attended a SGX seminar on "Reading IPO Prospectuses & Annual Reports" yesterday at SGX Auditorium. The trainer was Mr Th'ng Beng Hooi, a CFA chartered holder. Some things that are taught in this seminar (3.5 hours).
1. The criteria for listing on SESDAQ & Mainboard
2. Reporting requirements of companies based on market capitalization.
3. Requirements on share holding structure of issuer after listing.
4. Important points to look out for in the IPO prospectuses.
5. Some key points to look out for in annual reports.
6. Valuation models that are usually used in certain industries.
Although some of the above items are very basic information which could be obtained elsewhere, by attending such a introductory seminar one can actually cut down the time on basic information finding. Moreover, the trainer in this seminar explained very clearly the implications of the requirements/key points which one may otherwise need to scrutinise on his own. Furthermore, the trainer also presented some personal views on the current stock market.
He stated that the current bull run has passed three quarters of its way with some room to go further.
The trainer was clear and concise in his delivery, although the seminar was conducted at a slow pace. I felt a bit bored at some parts of the seminar. Overall, I felt the knowledge gained from this seminar is beneficial to me. The usefulness of the knowledge is not only limited to IPO companies but also applicable to listed companies.
